Bridal Hair in Utica, MI
Bridal hair is two appointments, not one. The trial is where the look is designed, tested and written down; the wedding morning is where it gets rebuilt on a schedule, with a veil, in front of a photographer. Booking bridal hair here means booking both.
The trial
The trial runs like a rehearsal, because that is what it is. Bring photographs, bring the veil or hairpiece if you already have them, and expect us to build the look, photograph it from every angle, take it apart if it is not right, and build it again. None of that is a failure — the trial exists so that the wedding morning contains no surprises.
Come with your hair as it will be on the day: the same colour, roughly the same length, and washed the day before rather than that morning, because day-old hair takes a pin and freshly washed hair fights one. We finish by writing down what was used and how it was built, so what gets recreated months later is the agreed version rather than someone's memory of it.
Six to eight weeks out is the sweet spot. That is early enough to change your mind or grow out a fringe, and late enough that your hair at the trial resembles your hair on the day. If you are colouring for the wedding, book the trial after that appointment rather than before it.
The wedding morning
On the day we work to the photographer's schedule rather than our own. Hair is finished before makeup starts running long, with time built in for the veil to go in properly — and to come out again for the reception if that is the plan. You are told when to be in the chair, and you are out of it when you were promised.
The style is built to survive the day itself: the hug from your grandmother, the drive to the venue, the humidity, and four hours of dancing. That means pinning for movement rather than for one photograph, and it means you leave with a small kit and a two-minute lesson in pushing a pin back in yourself, so a loose piece at nine in the evening is not a crisis.
Bridal parties are welcome and are quoted per head, with a schedule worked backwards from the moment you need to be in the car. Mothers, bridesmaids and flower girls all take time. Tell us the full count when you enquire and we will say honestly whether the morning fits, rather than discovering it does not at seven o'clock.
Choosing a look that suits the dress
The dress decides more than the hair does. A high neckline or a detailed back wants hair up and away from it; a strapless gown can carry loose waves that would look unfinished anywhere else. Bring a photograph of the dress to the trial — we do not need to see you in it, we need to see where the neckline sits and what the back is doing.
Veils are the other half of that question. Where the comb sits changes the shape of the entire style, and a cathedral veil pulled out mid-reception leaves a very different hole in an updo than a birdcage does. Testing that is exactly what the trial is for, which is why we ask for the actual veil rather than a picture of one.
Bridal hair for Macomb County weddings
Our address on Hall Road puts us near wedding venues in Shelby Township, Sterling Heights, Rochester and Romeo, and within a sensible morning's drive of most of Macomb and Oakland County. Wedding dates fill a long way out — a year ahead is not too early for a summer Saturday, and we would far rather tell you now that a date is taken than tell you in April.
One stylist, one bride, one morning. You are not being fitted between two colour appointments and nobody is hurrying you along to make up lost time. If that is what you want on the morning of your wedding, call the salon and we will talk the whole thing through before you commit to a date.
